TalentCorp Launches Electrical & Electronics Sectoral Working Group

Besides TalentCorp, members of the Working Group include international and local leading E&E companies, such as Agilent, Altera, Intel, Motorola and SilTerra, as well as representatives from Universiti Sains Malaysia and the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority.

Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, said: "The Government is committed to close collaboration with industry to address the talent needs of the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP). Such close collaboration is evident in the E&E Working Group, which is focused on driving initiatives to develop tomorrow's talent today."

Nor Mohamed launched the FasTrack programme, an initiative the Working Group has developed to enlarge the pool of Research and Development (R&D) engineers, needed for transformation of the E&E sector up the value chain. Jointly funded by the Government and industry, the FasTrack programme is targeted at nurturing high-achieving Malaysian graduates with the competencies needed for R&D. The programme involves an apprenticeship with hands-on experience working on actual R&D projects at host companies, supplemented with formal training at Penang Skills Development Centre (PSDC).

Johan Mahmood Merican, TalentCorp Chief Executive Officer, indicated that the Working Group approach will be expanded. He said: "Today's launch of the E&E Working Group in the Northern region is only the beginning? TalentCorp will expand this approach by establishing industry-led working groups for other key economic sectors. Sectoral Working Groups will ensure each sector's talent requirements are well understood and acted upon."
