KUALA LUMPUR, 26 October – The Department of Statistics Malaysia's recent data reveals that the female labour force participation rate stood at a mere 56.2 per cent in the second quarter of 2023 as compared to 82.8 per cent male labour force participation rate, demonstrating the gender disparity within the Malaysian workforce.

In response to the continuing gender imbalance, Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp) is taking a proactive position by organising the Women Career Convention (WCC) 2023, which was held on 21 October 2023. The WCC strives to empower women to achieve their professional goals while creating a workplace that values diversity and inclusion.

Thomas Mathew, TalentCorp’s Group Chief Executive Officer, said, “We are dedicated to achieving a female labour force participation rate of 60 per cent, aligning with the 12th Malaysia Plan and the recent 2024 Budget announcement, as well as the Malaysian Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals for 2030. To support this, we are encouraging more women participation in the workforce via the Career Comeback Programme (CCP), which has received an extension to its tax incentive until 2027 for women who return to work after a career break.”

“The second edition of the WCC 2023 goes beyond encouraging women to return to the workforce, it also aims to support senior talent who can make substantial contributions to the economy,” he added.

The WCC 2023 has facilitated interactions with more than 60 employers offering over 400 vacant positions, providing a significant platform for job seekers amongst women and senior citizens.
