Malaysian Professionals And Students In The UK Called To Be Part Of Malaysia's Transformation

London, 29 March 2014 – Malaysian professionals and students based in the United Kingdom were called upon to take up the dynamic career opportunities back home, which would serve both their professional aspirations and at the same time, contribute to Malaysia’s transformation. This was the key message when YB Dato’ Sri Abdul Wahid Omar, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department and corporate leaders engaged with Malaysians at the Corporate Luncheon 2014 organised by GRADUAN and United Kingdom and Eire Council of Malaysian Students (UKEC) and at professional networking sessions organised by Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp).

“The presence of so many corporate leaders from Malaysia to engage with Malaysian talent here in the UK is testimony to the demand for top talent in Malaysia and should provide confidence to our talent of a great future in building their career in Malaysia,” said YB Dato’ Sri Abdul Wahid Omar in delivering the keynote address of the Corporate Luncheon 2014 to more than 100 top Malaysian students. Dato’ Sri Wahid also elaborated on the strength and sustainability of the Malaysian economy, reinforcing the point of a bright future for returning Malaysian talents.

The Corporate Luncheon 2014 panel discussions featured corporate leaders such as Dato’ Faiz Azmi, Executive Chairman, PwC Malaysia; Dato’ Rauf Rashid, Country Managing Partner, EY; Jeffrey Chew, CEO, OCBC Bank Malaysia; Wan Kamaruzaman Wan Ahmad, CEO, KWAP; Dato’ Noorizah Abd Hamid, CEO, PLUS and Dato’ Khalis Abdul Rahim, Chief Human Capital Officer, TM. “Do not let others define success for you, figure out what you want in life,” advised Dato’ Rauf to the students, adding that Malaysia remained a great country to achieve success on career, family and personal fronts.

YB Dato’ Sri Wahid also spoke to the student leaders of the respective Malaysian student societies at the UKEC Awards ceremony, calling on student leaders to invest the time to understand the Government’s development agenda themselves and not just rely on what others may say, such as on social media. “The Government is committed to create a conducive environment, to allow future leaders to realise their potential and emerge as corporate or community leaders,” added YB Dato’ Sri Wahid. Awards to the Malaysian student societies included Best Malaysian Night, won by the Malaysian Student Society of Cardiff.

More than 100 Malaysian professionals attended TalentCorp’s professional networking sessions at the Chartered Accountants Hall and Lancaster London Hotel. Corporate leaders such as Mohamad Nasir Ab Latif, Chief Investment Officer, EPF; Nizar Najib, Executive Director, Deloitte and Puan Nuraini Ismail, VP Treasury, Petronas, shared with the Malaysian professionals based in London, the opportunities available for them to return and advance their careers in Malaysia.
