LIFE@WORK Awards 2016 Recognise Corporate Malaysia's Progress In Championing Flexible Work Arrangements In The Workforce
24 October 2016
KUALA LUMPUR, 24 October 2016 – Maybank, Digi, Intel, Johnson & Johnson, Gamuda, TM and IBM emerged winners of the LIFE@WORK Awards 2016. Previously known as the Life at Work Awards and now in its fourth year, LIFE@WORK 2016 is organised by Talent Corporation Malaysia (TalentCorp) to recognise Corporate Malaysia’s commitment to champion Flexible Work Arrangements (FWA) as a business strategy to maximise productivity and performance.
LIFE@WORK 2016 honours employers with innovative workplace strategies that enable their employees to better integrate their work-life commitments in response to evolving global trends and changing workforce demographics. In addition to the seven winners, two other companies – Sunway Group and Starbucks Berjaya Coffee Company – received Special Mention at the ceremony.
In presenting the winning employers with their awards today, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department YB Datuk Rahman Dahlan said, “In today's hyper-connected world, we have various external factors – including globalisation, rapidly evolving technology, and the changing face of the modern workforce – which not just shape the way businesses are conducted, but also determine how work gets done. The LIFE@WORK 2016 showcases the commitment of Malaysian employers in helping Malaysia move closer to its high-income status whilst creating an environment that maximises the potential of all employees.”
While Corporate Malaysia is making good progress in achieving Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) in the workforce, greater effort is needed to enhance diversity at the board and top management levels. YB Datuk Abdul Rahman disclosed that TalentCorp’s analysis of the FY2015 annual returns of the top 100 public listed companies (PLCs), representing 82 percent of market capitalisation, indicate a substantial improvement in the number of women in top management positions in the top 100 PLCs:
While this a significant progress, there is still room for improvement as TalentCorp’s analysis also found that:
Meanwhile, in terms of age composition of the board and top management of the top 100 PLCs, it was found that:
To help Malaysian employers increase the diversity of their talent pool, YB Datuk Rahman launched a report by TalentCorp entitled MY Work, MY Future: Embracing the winning formula for Flexible Work Arrangements. Based on TalentCorp’s work with leading employers since 2013, the publication gives five winning formulas to meet the needs of the future workforce through FWA.
“Studies2 have proven that organisations that implement FWAs have higher employee engagement and improved business productivity, as demonstrated by this year’s LIFE@WORK winners who have pioneered innovative policies and practices to better attract and retain talent especially women. It is also inspiring to see more of our employers introducing workplace strategies which go beyond gender and demonstrate a growing motivation to involve other under-represented groups like Persons with Disabilities and the Differently-Abled in our nation’s economic growth,” said Shareen Shariza Dato’ Abdul Ghani, chief executive officer of TalentCorp.
